Ink Dolls is an interesting work. Over all a fun light read that
will tease in its own delightful and playful way. That being said
there is nothing simply amazing about it. While the art is good there
is nothing stunning in it that would simply make one stop and stare.
The characters are real at times but seem to lack back history. The
story seems to be developing but there is no hook to it or any arc
that has been reviled as of yet. The sexuality in it is random and
seems to lack true purpose. There is a lack of elegance and sex in
this world seems to lack nuance and subtlety.
First let us talk about the art. It is good far better than 99% of
the comics that are currently on the internet. The back grounds are
well done and the characters have life in them. The only true problem
with the art is the composition. The individual images have flat
angles most of the time and when they are not flat there is a
technical failing in their representation. While the characters are
all kept in frame it is not always needed. There are many
opportunities where an opportunity for a more interesting shot was
passed up for something that was simpler to draw. Web comics are like
steroids for artist but they are so simply due to the artist pushing
themselves to produce quality work on a tight schedule. Taking bold
steps and failing is great practice and even if they do fail and
interesting failure is much better than a boring success. The back
grounds are wonderful and truly give the feeling of being in the
world.
Next let us talk about the characters. I cannot remember much of who
is who as the story goes on and that is a problem. The characters
defining moments seem to all revolve around how they react to or
interact with sex. In order to care about characters once must
understand who they are. The characters are bland if they have no
flaws they have no way to change for the better as the story goes on.
Only Mar seems to have any true internal conflict. While these
characters are not in any way bad they are a bit too vanilla when it
comes to personality and this makes their sexual exploits seem to be
apart from the story itself. It makes it seem like one is reading two
comics. The boys seem to think only with their dicks and the girls are
happy to lead them. Their personalities make it hard for one to
understand or care about why they are fucking one another. The
supporting cast is a bit off. They seem to take no notice of nudity or
sexuality when it is blatantly being show around them. The main
characters seem to try to hide things and the supporting cast seems to
simply go along with it like they do not notice hard cocks and tits.
It all feels a bit off to have someone comment on a short skirt
showing off underwear but then not care at all when the girls bare
pussy is shown.
Now for the story or lack thereof. There are the building blocks for
a great story here but it is missing a few key elements conflict, a
protagonist, and an antagonist. I cannot tell you who the main
character is only who gets the most screen time. The story needs to
revolve around someone who is key to the events that take place. This
comic is far more than a simply one page funny. There needs to also be
a antagonist, something that opposes the man character something to
battle and over come. Once we have been made to care for the
characters we must then fear them losing something. This is where
conflict comes in. Without conflict to fret over there is no reason to
read more. There are certainly things happening but none of them show
any risk to the characters. We as readers are never made to hope
something goes a certain way or fear some outcome. All and all this is
the only place I would say this comic truly fails but it is by far and
away the boldest attempt in a comic that otherwise goes with the safe
bet.
The sexuality in this comic is like getting a great blow job where
the girl stops and jacks you off to conclusion. There are two types
of naughty comics, those that tease and those with sex. This comic
does not seem to want to choose. There are many naughty situations
where some very hot sex would seem to happen given how open these
people are about their sexuality but do not. There are also some
points where they seem to have sex for no reason with people they do
not know or that the readers are not given indications that they know.
The sex scenes are often showing a great deal of before and after the
sex with little attention given to the sex itself. This is a great
tease but if teasing is the point why show the sex at all. It is like
doing something that will give a movie an R rating but not taken
advantage of it. If you are going to show it then show it and do it
justice. A girl who walks about naked who will fuck someone she has
known less than a few minutes. Who will tease and touch her relatives
even so far as to help put their cocks into other girls I do not think
would have a problem doing much more with them. These situations are
damn sexy but there does not seem to be the fallow through. If one is
simply going to tease then simply tease but if one wants to show some
naughty sex then show it and give it the space and time it deserves.
All and all this is a good comic not great but good. There is
however a huge potential from growth. This is the kind of comic I
think would benefit from a re-right. Where the author spends more time
thinking over the story ark and the trials and tribulations that the
characters may go through. There are many wonderful situations there
to be taken advantage of. The cousins are obviously attracted to one
another but seem reluctant to do more than tease. This is a great
conflict but it would need to be resolved by them deseeding to fuck or
not. We also do not seem them fret over it much. There is some gold in
here and the creator of this comic obviously has the skill needed to
refine it and make it into something wonderful. All and all a good
comic worth the read and only going to get better.
Honestly this comic lacks narrative, it jumps between slides and episodes with little or no coherent path. It gives the impression that the artist has English as a second language and lacks knowledge of common group behaviors and interactions.
It is drawn better than many web comics but not as well as a lot of others.
If you are looking for sobering engaging or addictive to read then don’t waste your time
here
Looks like a light heated comic of randomness with very nice art The story line is like a sitcom on television (meant to entertain) not to be controversial. The situations do not seam to reflect real life so a fantasy sex romp among 4 “cousins” is not to far fetched. I find it a refreshing change from some of the serous comic on line at this time. Over all i give it 7/10 stars.
I tend to agree with this review. It’s a very honest assessment without being malicious or condescending. I’m in agreement with the sex scene critic. I would definitely like to see the artist further explore the sexual attractiveness between Mar and Sabina. It wouldn’t have to be trashy or just plainly sexual between them. Just an awakening of their mutual interest with each other.
As far as story lines, the artist previously stated that he didn’t want to just draw porn. OK, wrap the sex around a good story. There are lots of interesting plots that the artist could take. There could be kidnapping involved, an actual murder. If the artist chose to couple up the cousins, there could be a menage a trios with another female or even an intruder into their intimacy (eg: another woman/man).
I totally agree the the artist is very talented (after all, that’s why I’m still here) and I look forward to his artistic endeavors with this strip.
I don’t see this comic that critically.
Okay, it is true that the characters deserve a deeper insight about their motivations, but in my opinion the flimsy vanilla touch is not a handicap. Not every comic needs to be tragical or abmysal.
Regarding the sex scenes: I agree with Colin’s analysis but not with his conclusion. Sex depictions can be so boring. The limitation of teasing scenes activates the optimum of the reader’s phantasy, and an explicit sex scene only make sense if it manages to increase the naughtieness of the plot.
